The number of students abroad rose from 7,200 in 2013 to more than 9,700 in 2022. Georgian students are internationally mobile, with an outbound mobility ratio of 6.5 per cent. This is all the more true since the number of 14-25 year olds will increase from the current 451,000 to 522,000 by 2035. However, it cannot be assumed that the supply of high-quality study places in the country will meet the demand of qualified applicants in the medium term. To improve the quality of education, the government has committed to increasing the share of government expenditure on education in GDP from 3,85 (2017) to six percent by 2021. No Georgian university is ranked among the first 600 world-wide in the QS ranking and only one among the first 1,000. ![]() The biggest challenges for Georgian universities over the years have been chronic underfunding of HEIs, an ageing academic staff and the brain drain of highly qualified scientists. The Georgian higher education landscape consists of 55 HEIs, 20 of them in the public sector. This approach will guarantee a high number of visitors with a profile the universities are looking for and will increase the visibility of European higher education opportunities set alongside its main competitor countries and regions. The pavilion will have a clear separate visual identity and an additional independent communication campaign. The consortium proposes to organise the fair in cooperation with the local education fair provider EduGuide, which is well known and appreciated by the target groups. The target audience will be students of all levels, from high school to doctoral candidates. In order to further strengthen the European brand and encourage young Georgians to consider diverse European countries as study destination, the consortium proposes to organise a one-day Study in Europe fair in Tbilisi, the capital city and main university centre.
